Esperance’s alt-rock Car Park Social return with their first release since their debut EP with the single “Rain Chain” slotted for release on Friday 10 December 2021. Getting back to basics, “Rain Chain” is a riff-heavy and grunge inspired tune. “It was great to have the time after our EP release to allow the song to develop organically and down its own path” says guitarist Paul. “This is definitely our most “locked-in” song yet, both in terms of how it was created and also how we play it live as a band.” The discordant sound created between the major and minor elements is a key theme, and it generates a driving sense of unease that builds throughout the song. This is matched by the searing vocals of Dan Seinor, which it seems were custom made for the grunge rock sound. A noticeable addition to this new recording is the backing vocals. Provided by the band members and some special guests (Boden Bosworth and Drew Goddard), they provide a haunting dynamic to the song. Paying homage to the historic room they were recorded in with emotive reverb that ricochets as the song progresses. The song concludes with a climax no one was expecting. Car Park Social returned to the homeland of their debut EP, recording “Rain Chain” with Drew Goddard and Brenton Meynell (Barefoot Bands) at the Historic Coolgardie Train Station. Andy Lawson (Debaser Studios) mixed and William Bowden (King Willy Sound) mastered the song.
