West Australian Music (WAM) is excited to announce the release of its fifteenth regional recording compilation – Demos from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands and Esperance. The 23-track double album is the first of its kind in WAM’s acclaimed regional recording series, showcasing the stunning juxtaposition of stories, song and landscapes between two music communities on either sides of WA’s expansive Goldfields-Esperance region.

WAM’s pop-up studio spent nine days recording artists in the remote Mirlirrtjarra Community (Warburton) – a place of endless desert horizons located on the Ngaanyatjarra Lands near the tri-state border. Following a multi-day, 1,200km drive, WAM set-up shop in the turquoise-ocean tourist town of Esperance on the state’s southern coastline.

With both regional centres boasting impressive and unique music landscapes, WAM is excited to lead the album release with singles from two acts embodying and playing key roles in their local music communities. From Demos from Esperance, we have the sounds of Grand Casual and their single ‘Kicks’, accompanied by ‘Drive Steady’ from Red Sand Beat Band off Demos from the Ngaanyatjarra Lands. The cover artwork for both albums features pieces from renowned local visual artists Phillipa Butler (The Ngaanyatjarra Lands) and Allira Henderson (Esperance).

WAM is grateful to the support of the Goldfields Esperance Development Commission who have continued to support recording projects and development of original music in the region. WAM also acknowledges the incredible ongoing support of the Regional Men’s Health Initiative, who provide important information and resources to help keep our regional population aware of the importance of mental and physical health maintenance.

Demos from Ngaanyatjarra Lands and Esperance is supported through the State Government’s Contemporary Music Fund and is delivered with the ongoing support of WA State Government Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. WAM is grateful to the support of valued sponsors Wilurarra Creative, Regional Men’s Health Initiative, Goldfields Esperance Development Commission, Hertz and media partners ABC Goldfields and Esperance.
